From Phnom Penh to Ba Srae and Back Again – Alternatives

Alternatively there will be other options available for you too. These are listed below:

  1. Rent a Car. You can rent cars for around $45 to $55 a day with or without a driver.
    1. I have found the people at Lyna Garage to be very professional straight forward with relatively reasonable prices (see http://lyna-garage.com/)
    2. Or try Emerald – call Mack on 012 977011 – and tell him Ken sent you ;o)
  2. Taxi. This is probably not a bad way to get there and back again on the same day or on the next day. If you expect the taxi driver to stay overnight then you would have to pay for his food and accommodation probably. I would estimate a full taxi about $60 tom $70 for staying overnight and there and back.
  3. Shared taxi. You will be crammed into a pick-up / ute with about 40 other people. Relatively dangerous, uncomfortable but cheap.
  4. Ramork. This is a trailer towed behind a small motorbike. Dangerous, slow but cheap.
  5. Share a car with other guests. I will try to get a list of names and telephone numbers of guests that will be driving themselves to Ba Srae and the dates and times they intend to be going and coming back etc.

Phnom Penh Only

I am sometimes heard to say that Phnom penh has the best public transport in the world. Basically you can go from anywhere to anywhere any time of the day or night relatively cheaply. Basically there are 3 main types of transport – taxis, tuk-tuks and moto-dups. The properties of each of these are detailed below:

  • Taxis
    • They are generally not alot of them around but their numbers are definitely increasing
    • They are generally cheap and very comfortable with good drivers
    • Call
      • 023 888 023
      • 010 311 888
      • 011 311 888
      • 013 311 888
  • Tuk-Tuks
    • This is a nice way to get around and also to see the city
    • They can be more expensive than a taxi so bargain hard before getting in
    • If you find a good Tuk-Tuk guy then make to get his telephone number
    • Some of them are a little unscupulous so beware
    • They are located all around the major cities and can go quite some distance.
  • Moto-dups
    • These are just a guy with a motorbike that will take you anywhere you want to go
    • They can be really idiotic drivers sometimes – so choose carefully
    • They are probably the cheapest way to get around
